KRF Ambassadors play a crucial role in expanding our network of scientists and clinicians globally. KRF realizes that making progress in this disorder is dependent on global collaboration among all who either treat keloid patients or do research in it.

Ambassador to the Arabic Speaking Countries

Haythem Ali, MD

Dr. Haythem Ali is an active member of Keloid Research Foundation and our Ambassador to the Arabic Speaking Countries. Dr. Ali is a medical oncologist at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit Michigan and a clinical assistant professor medicine at the Wayne State University School of Medicine. Dr. Ali's Clinical and academic interests are in discovering the impact of ethnic disparities in the biology of different neoplastic processes as well as keloid disorder. Dr. Ali became interested in keloid disorder as it is another disorder where ethnicity plays a significant role in the biology and clinical presentation of the disease process.

Ambassador to South Africa

Jonel May Breytenbach, MD

Dr. Jonel May Breytenbach is an active member of Keloid Research Foundation and our Ambassador to South Africa. Dr. Breytenbach is in her final year of Plastic Surgery Residency at Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences in Gauteng in South Africa. The Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences Plastic Surgery Department sees a great number of patients with advanced keloids, which are mostly triggered due to trauma and burns. She has a special interest in the multi-modality treatment of patients with advanced keloid disorder.

Ambassador to Bolivia & Latin America

Raul Caceres, MD

Dr. Raul Caceres is an active member of KRF and the Ambassador to Bolivia & Latin America. Following his training in Surgery, and Plastic Surgery, he did a fellowship in Burn Care at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Maryland. He is a member of the International Society of Burn Injuries and a Fellow of the International College of Surgeons. Born in Oruro, Bolivia where there is a great need for burn care of indigent children, Dr. Caceres and his family made possible the construction of a burn unit similar to the ones in the US. For the past 5 years, he has been traveling there to treat burns, sequelae and keloid scars. Because keloid scars are prevalent in patients of Spanish ethnicity, Dr. Caceres has a great interest in this ongoing research. Dr. Caceres is actively working on establishing the groundwork to study the natural history of keloid disorder in Latin America.

Ambassador to United States

Reza Ghohestani, MD, PhD

Dr. Reza Ghohestani is an active member of the board of directors of KRF and our Ambassador to the United States. Dr. Ghohestani is an academic dermatologist, and a basic science researcher, based in in San Antonio, Texas. For years, Dr. Ghohestani has lent his support to KRF. He was the force behind our Spring 2017 Symposium in Marrakesh and also the visionary for establishing the Journal of Keloid Research. KRF is happy to have Dr. Ghohestani as a member of its Board of Directors.

Ambassador to Saudi Arabia

Mansour A. Alghamdi, PhD

Dr. Alghamdi is an active member of KRF and our Ambassador to Saudi Arabia. Dr. Alghamdi is an assistant professor at the Department of Human Anatomy, College of Medicine, King Khalid University, Saudi Arabia. He received his Ph.D. degree in 2016 from the University of Western Australia investigating the role of epigenetic modification in keloid scar pathology. His research interests focus on understanding the molecular basis for keloid scarring, the development of targeted therapies, burn injury prevention and education.

Ambassador to New Zealand


Based in Wellington, New Zealand, Dr. Swee Tan is the Founder and Executive Director, Gillies McIndoe Research Institute and a Consultant Plastic & Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgeon at Hutt Hospital, and our ambassador to New Zealand. An elected member of 13 national and international professional and scientific societies. Dr. Tan is a recipient of 19 science prizes and 26 honors and awards including the KEA World Class New Zealand Award, the Officer of New Zealand Order of Merit from the Queen, and the Fervent Global Love of Lives Medal. A holder of six patents, he is an author of over 150 publications in peer-reviewed journals, books, and book chapters and has delivered over 350 lectures at conferences. Dr. Tan is a Member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the Journal of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery, an Associate Editor of Frontiers in Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Global Open, and a reviewer of 32 other medical and science journals.

Ambassador to France

Gwenael Rolin, PhD

Dr. Gwenael Rolin is the Editor in Chief of the Journal of Keloid Research and our Ambassador to France. Dr. Rolin is also the lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine (Bourgogne Franche-Comte University) and at the Biomedical Engineer school of Besancon (ISIFC - International Master Degree) where he teaches courses in Cellular and Tissue Engineering, Regenerative Medicine, Biotechnology and Advanced Therapy Medicinal Product.

Ambassador to Switzerland

Juerg Hafner, MD

Prof. Juerg Hafner is an active member of KRF and our ambassador to Switzerland. Prof. Hafner is an internationally known dermatological surgeon at the University Hospital of Zurich in the Department of Dermatology. He was the founder Vice President of the Swiss Association of Wound Treatment and recipient of multiple awards from the Swiss Society of Phlebology, Swiss Society of Angiology and Austrian Society of Phlebology and Dermatological Surgery. Since 2011, Prof. Hafner has been the President of the Swiss Society of Dermatology and Venereology. Prof. Hafner has a special interest in keloid research and management of keloid patients. He is also a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Keloid Research.

Ambassador to South Korea

Tae Hwan Park, MD, PhD

Dr. Tae Hwan Park is an active member of KRF, our scientific board member as well as our Ambassador to South Korea. Dr. Park is a board certified plastic surgeon in the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and assistant professor at CHA Bundang Medical center in South Korea. He is the author of numerous keloid publications. Dr. Park has extensive experience in treating patients with keloid disorder. KRF is happy to have Dr. Park as a member of its Scientific Board.

Ambassador to Serbia

Tamara Maravic-Gidakovic, MD

Dr. Tamara Maravic-Gidakovi is our Ambassador to Serbia. Dr. Maravic specializes in Dermatology and Venerology. Her medical practice (Dermanova)is located in Belgrade. She has a special interest in the science of keloid disorder and has been supportive of KRF initiatives.
