Working Model

Keloids to some extent behave like cancer. Keloid starts like a tumor, it grows and forms a tumor mass. Although it is a benign condition, keloids relapse and re-grow after surgery; this is exactly what cancers do. In treating cancers, we utilize three main forms of treatments, Surgery, Chemotherapy and Radiation Therapy. We utilize the same three treatments, surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy for keloids as well.

We owe our advancements in treatment of cancer to the relentless efforts of thousands of scientists who work together, in the laboratories around the world, as well as those who treat actual cancer patients. Our research model in KRF follows the same model of research in cancer; the well established "bedside to bench and bench to bedside" methodology.

It is a well accepted fact that keloid disorder is a true area of unmet medical need. Therefore, we need to construct a research platform, and network of basic scientists and physicians who will work in tandem to take this disease to the laboratory and dissect in ways that has not occurred before; and translate laboratory discoveries into medical treatments and hopefully a cure for this disease. There are numerous examples of the success of this model in cancer medicine. KRF needs your support to advance the basic science and clinical research in keloid. Join us in this endeavor.
